Sony’s eighth generation console, PlayStation 4 continues to dominate its competition in US and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Remastered topped physical retail sales in July NPD, according to NPD Group’s latest monthly report.

PS4 was the top-selling console in US hardware charts in July for the seventh consecutive month, despite Xbox One’s Kinect-free price cut.

Hardware sales continue to roll in, since the release on new consoles from Microsoft and Sony in November 2013. NPD doesn’t reveal the numbers, so we don’t know how the two consoles are stacking up, but Sony revealed that PS4 has sold 10 millions units and Microsoft revealed in April that Xbox One had shipped 5 million units.

The life-to-date hardware sales of PS4 and Xbox One are up by “close to 80%” over that of their predecessors at the same point in their cycle.

In general, July 2014’s NPD report was positive. Total industry spend was up 16% year-on-year to $514.3 million (from $443.1 million).

Unfortunately physical software sales was down 15% year-on-year to $178.2 million less, compared to $210.1 million last year, it is worth noting that NPD doesn’t include digital sales in the figures.
