Valve is showing off Defense of the Ancients 2 at GamesCom this August. A fan made DOTA2 forum has set up a clock that counts down to Valve’s showcase at GamesCom next month after they obtained a copy of a letter that their colleagues at ‘sgamer.com’ received from Valve (shown below), inviting them to come to their DOTA2 presentation.

Valve’s DotA 2 Confirmed to be Revealed at Gamescom 1

Back in October 2010, Valve officially confirmed a new project called Dota 2, or rather a direct sequel to the Warcraft 3 custom scenario, Defense of The Ancients (i.e. Dota). Although little is known about the game at this point, we do know that it’s supposed to make an appearance at this year’s GamesCom in Koln (Germany).

Voice actor John Patrick Lowrie, who is currently working on Dota 2, claims the game is set to hit the market this Fall. You may not be aware of this, but Lowrie has voiced many characters for various Valve games including Half-Life 2  (voiced Odessa – if you can remember him), in addition to voicing The Sniper from Team Fortress 2. What’s more, Lowrie is hitched to Ellen Mc Lain, who is best known for voicing GLaDOS in Portal (as well as TF2 announcer chick).

GamesCom is Europe’s largest games festival open to the public, and so its a great showcase for what is set to be an extremely popular PC game. It may also reveal plans towards when the game will launch, as many games featured at GamesCom are falling towards the end of 2011.

Valve said that ”Dota 2 promises to take the unique blend of online RTS and RPG action that has made Dota popular with tens of millions of gamers and expand upon it in every way.”
