Square Enix is holding a stage show to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy in Tokyo, Japan.
The publisher’s event scheduled is related to the future of Final Fantasy XIII announcement. The event starts off with an early demo and opening ceremony exclusively for the press and few Square Enix Members fan club and the rest of the days are open to public.
The Final Fantasy XIII stage will be held on September 1 at 11:30 titled “Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Saga: New Developments Presentation.” Square Enix promised details on the future of the FFXIII project. The game’s producer, director, art director and other members of the staff will attend the event.
Previously, According to anonymous sources speaking to Kotaku, the troubled development of Final Fantasy Versus XIII has come to an end. Allegedly, the project as it was originally conceived is dead, though the effort that has already been put into the game may be integrated into another upcoming Final Fantasy.
The sources claimed that Square Enix is not planning to make a formal announcement regarding the cancellation, opting instead to simply stop talking about the game and letting it fade out of people’s minds.
In a statement to Kotaku, Square Enix said: “We have no information on the status of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but will be sure to update you as it becomes available.” Looks like we’ll be hearing a lot of variations on that sentence in the months to come.
Is Square revealing additional DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2? Or is the company turning Final Fantasy XIII into a trilogy?

Wow this is new so does this mean we won't see it and they cancel it this is not going to be a lot of love and liking from the fans about this :/

It would make us fans very sad if FFversus13 was cancelled, and SE would ruin itself by doing so! As a trilogy of FF13 is concerned, I don't know if the sales would be that good, cause you'd then have to play the first AND the second game in order to fully understand the third one, and I don't know if SE would gain that many new fans with this strategy instead of just releasing f.eg, FF14 for console or a remake of older FFs??? :-/

I have been waiting patiently for the release of this game for several years,
and to be honest Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 were not that good to begin with,
i see no point in continuing along with those stories,
i doubt versus 13 will simply 'fade out of peoples minds'
how can you people believe this hogwash the fact that Kotaku says it is is purely speculation the only reason its on hold is because of the massive amounts of cgi trailers and cgi game scenes they almost went bankrupt so they had to put it on teh shelf for now i wish people would ignore rumors or at least find out the real info before splurting a bunch of dribble
I really hope they don't cancel it! The chance of its production is slim now! Fans have waited too long I mean six years! SE better be prepared to loss fans, because I know there are a lot of people waiting for this. Plus they won't make money! Do you if this game came out Game Stops around the country would be flooded with fans trying to get the six year game! I mean I would sleep outside there door if I had to get my copy! It would be a shame if we never get to meet the sexy Noctis and the beautiful Stella. SE think about this for a second, cause if you don't your going to have a lot angry fans in your hands!
only reason why I bought a ps3 was to enjoy versus 13 and is rycktena true that they will not let it go, I'll do as many others, and stop buying products from Square Enix
This news makes me afraid, but some hope might come finally. I just hope they don't mistake their loyal fans once again or they will be on the cutting block. I remember the very first FF and if they don't release VERSUS I guess FF XII was my last until disney comes and helps KH3 made. So let us all cross our fingers and hope to be in control of characters like noctis with big swords and magic once again!

Square-Enix logic; We have this game with actual gameplay that EVERYONE is excited for called FF13 Versus, and one that is just a movie you hold up and X through – FF13. Guess which one we drop and which one we make a possible trilogy out of /trollfaceatfans
Damn you, Square…I swear to god, if they cancel Versus XIII, I'm never playing another Square game for as long as I live. They already disappointed me with the fact that there might not be an English version for Type-0, they better not let me down in this game. If they release this, a little bit of faith in them will come back to me but if they release Type-0's English version as well, my faith will fully be restored.
I rly hope that they really do make Final Fantasy XIII-3 !!! … The story line of FF XIII is THE BEST ever ( and I've played them all ) , the combat system is just brilliante , and the open world of the XIII-2 was great …. So I rly pray that the day will come that you will release FF XIII-3 !!!!!
