Sony Pictures Entertainment will start shooting the film adaptation of Naughty Dog’s video game series, Uncharted in 2015, according to director Seth Gordon.

Speaking to Zap2it, Gordon confirms that the team “just got the script to a really good place” and they are planning to start production early next year. “I think very early next year.

That’s the plan. That’s like tomorrow, essentially, because the prep is so complicated for the movie,” The setting of the film will be “very international” with scenes taking place “all over the world.”

Uncharted Movie To Start Filming Early Next Year 1

Uncharted movie has been in development since 2008 and it still needs a lead actor to play Nathan Drake, since Mark Wahlberg dropped out. “I want it to be a great actor,” Gordon says.

That’s number one, and then if it’s someone who has an actual jaw, that’s even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There’s no way we’d do the inverse of that where it’s somebody famous who can’t [act].”

He drops few plot details. “It’s going to honor the mythology of the game, but I would say honor some of the most interesting stuff from the first one and build from there. There’s some stuff that isn’t in the game.”

“I love the complexity and frankly the sophistication of the storytelling in the game, and we aspire to that — but don’t want to tell the exact same story, of course — so something that doesn’t break the rules of what it did but expands.

Because I feel like the people who play the games and know them well don’t want to just see the same story told. You want extra shades,” Gordon concluded.

Naughty Dog’s action-adventure third-person shooter platform video game follows a “descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue.

The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is ratcheted up several notches when creatures — actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis — begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure’s true secrets.”
