Ubisoft has a rough idea in place for the ending of their their historical action-adventure open world stealth video game series, Assassin’s Creed.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag director, Ashraf Ismail explains, “We have multiple development teams, then we have the brand team that sits on top and is filled with writers and designers concerned with the series’ overall arc.

So there is an overall arc, and each iteration has its place inside this. We have an idea of where the end is, what the end is.

But of course Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft’s CEO] announced we are a yearly title, we ship one game a year. So depending on the setting, depending on what fans want, we’ve given ourselves room to fit more in this arc. But there is an end.”

Since multiple teams are working on Assassin’s Creed titles – two unannounced titles including Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – at the same time the teams are able to help each other with notes and to include hints in their titles.

“We’re now able to seed stuff earlier and earlier in our games. So for example in [ACIV] we have Edward, who was seeded in ACIII. But there’s a lot more stuff in our game that is hinting at other possibilities,” Ismail concluded.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will launch on October 29th in the US, and November 1st everywhere else for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. PC version will release after the console versions and a launch title for PS4 and Xbox One.
