For the first time in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures & Marvel’s upcoming American sci-fi action/adventure superhero film, Guardians of the Galaxy features a talking raccoon, a sentient tree in the lead, and a female villain.
Rocket: A genetically engineered raccoon who is an expert marksman will be voiced by Bradley Cooper. Groot: A tree-like humanoid who is Rocket’s accomplice will be voiced by Vin Diesel.
Nebula: An employee of Thanos who “has an interesting and complex relationship with Gamora” will be portrayed by Karen Gillan and her character will have a fight sequence with Gamora portrayed by Zoe Saldana.
Speaking with MTV at SXSW, Karen Gillan said, “Yeah, there’s a big girlie fight sequence, but it’s not that girlie. They made sure there weren’t any nice pirouettes or anything like that.”
“She [Zoe Saldana] is really experienced in the physical stuff, she was a ballerina. She’s really amazing at all of that stuff.
She barely required any rehearsal, she was like, ‘I can do this.’ I required two months of rehearsals every day that I wasn’t shooting, because I looked like spaghetti when I started.”
“This is the integral one for my character, because it’s not just a physical battle. Their relationship goes very deep, and there’s a huge history between them. So there’s a lot more to it than just the physical,” She concluded.
The film features an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, & Bradley Cooper.
Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on August 1, 2014 in 3D.
