Naughty Dog showcased The Last of Us Part II performance capture tech video during their PlayStation Experience 2016 panel.
Creative Director Neil Druckmann revealed the video during PlayStation Experience 2016 that shows off Naughty Dog’s new performance capture technology used for the sequel, get it after the break:
Druckmann mentioned that they often cast actors that look like the characters in the game, but since Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker doesn’t look like Ellie and Joel, they had to create a different process to make it work.
The developers created digital doubles of Johnson and Baker, while the artists created a new next-gen sculpt of Ellie and Joel.
The Last of Us Part II performance capture video shows the new technology in action with digital double of Johnson and Ellie’s textures, transforming it into Ellie.
Druckmann notes that Ellie’s character model is by far the most advanced model ever created in Sony Interactive Entertainment group.
The Last of Us Part II will take place about five years after the first game, players will play as 19 year old, Ellie.
The game’s story is written by Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross.
The Last of Us game director Bruce Straley will not return to co-direct Part II with Neil Druckmann due to a hiatus.
The Last of Us Part II is currently in early development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.
