The initial ideas for The Last Guardian envisioned by Ueda since around 2005 after completing Shadow of the Colossus, the game was in active development with Team Ico since 2007.

In 2007, the development had completed enough of the game to showcase it at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009 with a planned 2011 release for PlayStation 3.

The game suffered numerous delayes, Ueda and other Team Ico members departed Sony, it was switched from PS3 to PS4 due to hardware difficulties in 2012.

Ueda and his genDESIGN studio, which is composed of several former Team Ico members as creative consultants with Ueda as director continued the development with Sony’s Japan Studio handling the programming and technical aspects.

The game was then reintroduced at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015 with a October 2016 release.

It was delayed again in September due to bugs.

But after over nine years of development The Last Guardian will finally launch on December 6 in US, December 7 in Europe, December 9, 2016 in the United Kingdom and Ireland for PlayStation 4.
