After two Avengers movies, the supervillain, Thanos will finally be the main character in Marvel’s upcoming American superhero film, Avengers: Infinity War.
Thanos made his debut in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s The Avengers (2012) during the mid-credits and then Josh Brolin portrayed the character in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
And now he will move on from just a cameo to being the main character in Avengers: Infinity War.
“Thanos in Infinity War is – in a movie that has a lot of characters, you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character, and that’s a bit of a departure from what we’ve done before, but that was appropriate for a movie called Infinity War,” said Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige.
The film features an ensemble cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, and Benicio del Toro.
Filming began in January 2017, at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, and is expected to shoot back-to-back with a direct sequel until October/November 2017.
Additional filming is scheduled to take place in Scotland.
It is intended to be the sequel to The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron and the nineteenth film installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.
Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2018. An untitled sequel is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2019.
