Sledgehammer Games already has begun work on a new Call of Duty game, a job listing for the studio has revealed.
The job listing spotted on Gamasutra refers to “an unannounced high-end console title”, it also mentions that the ad is seeking new talent for Sledgehammer’s “Call of Duty development team”, adding that the ideal candidate “will be involved in the creation of multiplayer game modes and online community features” for the game.
Looking into 2013, the Call of Duty release slate gets a little murky. Will we see the inevitable release of Modern Warfare 4 from the reconstructed developer force at Infinity Ward.
He added: “I think that we will work alone on our next project. [Modern Warfare 3] has allowed both Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to hire, and we hired really strong teams, both of us. We needed to come together on this one, but since then we’ve both grown, we’re both over 100 people now.
“Initially we weren’t fully functional because we had to learn a new engine. Now we have, I think the best thing that could happen for Activision would be for us to both go off and make our own game. Whether that’s a Call of Duty game or not is up in the air. I plan to continue working on Call of Duty.”
The team had previously been working on a third-person Call of Duty set outside of the modern era which, in Schofield’s own words, featured an atmosphere ‘like Dead Space’. The project is rumoured to have been cancelled.
Next year’s Call of Duty is expected to be developed by Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch. The game is rumoured to be codenamed ‘Iron Wolf‘.
