American film director, producer, Seth Gordon has left the project after Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman, Tom Rothman made the decision to take the project in a new creative direction, according to reports.

Tom Rothman was recently named Chairman of a new joint venture with Sony Pictures to make films and television under the TriStar banner, TriStar Productions, replacing Amy Pascal in February 2015.

He slashed the production budget of Uncharted and considers the movie not as Indiana Jones, but more like Resident Evil and the script is back in development, according to Heroic Hollywood.

Uncharted movie has been in the works for several years and has gone through several changes from screenwriters to directors. David O. Russell was once on board to direct from a screenplay he wrote.

Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer, David Guggenheim, and Cormac and Marianne Wibberley have also worked on the screenplay.

American journalist, screenwriter and film producer, Mark Boal wrote the recent draft of the script.

Seth Gordon is the third director to drop out of the project, following David O. Russell and Neil Burger.

The movie is produced by Avi Arad. The project is yet to find an actor to take on the role of series protagonist, Nathan Drake, after Mark Wahlberg & Chris Pratt passed on the offer.

Uncharted is currently scheduled for a June 10, 2016 release.
