Assassin’s Creed series reputation for the embodiment of the historical time periods and cities, manifestations goes on with the development for players who want to explore new places. Ezio will leave Italy and Rome behind to travel to a variety of places which will let players show the Assassin´s Creed universe from a different perspective.
Masyaf
The story begins with Masyaf like the original Assassin´s Creed, Revelaions’ Ezio moves to the Assassin´s fortress to search for secret knowledge, once held by Altair, but then he realizes that the area is overrun by Templars.
The creative director Alexandre Amancio says: “He goes back to Masyaf in search of answers. “He wants to find the library there to learn more about the Order. He follows the footsteps of Altair to Masyaf, what begins as a pilgrimage turns into a race against time”
But Ezio can´t finish his mission on his first visit, but at the end he returns to Masyaf when he has collected every piece of puzzle. Ezio manages to find out what Altair knew and Masyaf is the place where we learn crucial information tying into more mysterious Assassin´s Creed mysteries.
Constantinople
This ancient metropolis serves as the primary setting for most of Revelations’ action. Ezio maybe the highest ranking Assassin in the world, but he is still an outsider in this vast and complex city. Relying on aid from other Assassins to learn the ropes, Ezio soon becomes familiar familiar with the politcal situations in Constantinople, which is the cultural center of the sixteenth century.
“Constantinople is a massive city. It actually spans two continents – on one side is Europe, and other Asia,” explains Amancio. Constantinople was at the time controlled by the Ottomans and it was one of the reasons that Europeans tried to go around Africa. The city Constantinople has four distint districts: Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial, and Galata. All four districts have a different visual style, from the poorer areas to bustling ports. This shows that also though players will spend time in one city, because each area has its own distinct vibe.
Cappadocia
In a departure from the cities one normally finds in Assassin’s Creed, Cappadocia isn’t just populated by regular civilians. The populated city by the sworn enemies of Ezio’s order Cappadocia is a Templar city, but it is not under Templar control.
Amancio says “Part of the city is above ground, but its true secret is underground”. Something like this has never been done in the franchise before. He mentions “we have this complete underground city”.
Ezio has to risk to explore the tunnels of Cappadocia and twisting tunnels, also when it sounds like something he would better like to avoid. Furthermore the Templars are undoubtedly hiding key information at their seat of power.
Rhodes
Players will get to experience Rhodes as a new multiplayer location. The Island of Rhodes is under the control of the Knights Hospitallers, the builders of castles and palaces, effectively transforming the island into a fortress. However, Rhodes has a long history of practice by different cultures. The Ottomans are attempting to clain it for themselves in the timeframe of Revelations.
