Michael Fassbender will star in and co-produce the movie version of Ubisoft’s popular Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Jean-Julien Baronnet, head of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, told Variety that the Prometheus and X-Men: First Class star was the studio’s “first choice” to don the iconic peaked hood. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

Fassbender will team up with his DMC Film partner Connor McCaughan to bring Ubisoft’s historical-action series to the big screen in a production headed up by Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

It is still unknown which time period or which assassin the film will follow, nor when the film is scheduled to release, but in addition to Assassin’s Creed, Variety reports Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also wants to develop films for the publisher’s Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon series’.

The Fifth title of the main franchise, Assassin’s Creed III will release on October 30 for PS3, and Xbox360 The Wii U and PC version has no date as yet.
