Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced that Matt Reeves will direct and co-produce The Batman.
Warner Bros. Pictures Group’s President and Chief Content Officer, Toby Emmerich made the announcement, “We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate.
Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey.”
Matt Reeves says “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply.
I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
Batman will next appear in Justice League, which is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017.

The standalone action adventure stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, Jeremy Irons as Alfred and J. K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

The Batman is on track to begin shooting in spring 2017, an official release date is yet to be announced.
