American actress and film producer, Marisa Tomei is currently the top choice to play Aunt May in Marvel and Sony’s upcoming reboot of Spider-Man, according to Variety.
Both the studios are in the process of rounding up the cast to craft a shooting schedule of the film before they find a writer for the project.
She is popularly known for her performances in Untamed Heart (1993), The Paper (1994), Unhook the Stars (1996), Slums of Beverly Hills (1998), In the Bedroom (2001), Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead (2007), The Wrestler (2008), Cyrus (2010), and Love Is Strange (2014).
The film will be directed by Jon Watts, produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal featuring Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man.
The untitled Spider-Man reboot “will not be an origin story, Feige previously said. But, with great power comes great responsibility. It is inherent to who his character is.
But we want to reveal it in different ways and spend much more time focusing on this young high school kid in the MCU dealing with his powers.”
Holland will make his first appearance in Marvel Studios’ upcoming American superhero film, Captain America: Civil War alongside Chris Evans & Robert Downey Jr., which hits theaters on May 6, 2016. Tomei might make a first appearance in Civil War or Spider-Man in 2017.
The untitled Spider-Man reboot filming will begin sometime next year & opens in theaters on July 28, 2017.
