PlayStation 4′s launch price shows how serious Sony is about next generation cycle, according to Level-5 President Akihiro Hino.
Level-5 is an independent video game developer and publisher based in Fukuoka, Japan; creators of Professor Layton, Ni no Kuni and Inazuma Eleven.
Speaking with Famitsu, Hino said, “The number-one surprise for me was the PS4’s price. I think anyone can look at that and think ‘This is cheap!’ Putting cutting-edge PC specs into a game machine that costs just a few hundred dollars really brings across how serious SCE is about this generation.
I think the Xbox One is pretty cheap considering what you get with it as well, but with this PS4 price point, they’ll have to do something to oppose that.”
During its E3 2013 press conference, Sony confirmed PlayStation 4‘s launch this holiday season and will retail for $399/€399/£349 ($200 cheaper than the original PS3). Comparatively, Xbox One will retail for $499/€499/£429.
“Looking at all the new media, it’s easy to see how console gaming is still the main entertainment space people work in. I can’t wait for the next generation to really spread out into households,” he concluded.
So what do you think about the pricing? sound off in the comments!

They are both the same price, noone is fooled…the xbox one comes with a headset and kinetic in the box…if you add on the ps4 camera and a headset it brings the PS4 up to the same price
Ps4 comes with headset and ps4 camera is £55 = 350+55 = £405.
Still cheaper than Xbox one!
The PS4 does come with a headset… And the PS4 camera costs $59.99 so that would still make the PS4 $40 cheaper than the XBone. So, they’re not the same price :-)
I think that if they would’ve bundled the camera and all that with the PS4, they probably would’ve made the price $499 like the xbone. Maybe not, but they wouldn’t necessarily lose money if it were. I’m still with you though, Daniel, on the PS4, cause at least you get the option of no camera because a lot of people don’t have a big enough space to use the camera for games, and it’s just easier to choose not to get it at first and maybe buy the camera later.
Seriously who f@#$%& cares about PS Eye or Kinectic? The reason why im going with PS4 is cause its cheaper and doesnt make buy an accessory i really dont care much about…
Camera costs $60 and you can use your old $150 headsets on your PS4 unlike Xbox One. PS4 is extremely cheaper and you don’t need PS+ to use apps, party chat or play online with free to play titles which 5 are coming this year. If you do get PS+ you get DriveClub free out of the gate and more games in the future and discounts. Sony is service.
well 4gb memory sucks they actually need to have more save space or else everyone will be waiting for a $600-$800 one that has better memory storage on it.
What in the hell are you talking about? 4gb? The standard HD is 500gb. If you are referring to ram, the unit has 8gb of ddr5 ram. Currently 3.5gb is allocated to the OS but in time that number will become less as the system matures and Sony and developers learn better utilization skills.
So level-5 how about putting Rouge Galaxy and Dark Chronicle/Cloud 2 on psn :P
Mint
Cheaper than Neo Geo.
