Assassin’s Creed Universe revolves around the premise of the looming doomsday scenario that occurs in December 2012.

As we barrel towards that in real life (the date, not the end of the world),Ubisoft has been feeling the pressure to get the Assassin’s Creed franchise up to date before we arrive at that point in the real world.

The development team has created this timeline and is pressing to end Desmond’s story before December of next year in Assassin’s Creed III.

Less Assassin's Creed Coming After 2012 1

“In Assassin’s Creed we set up a timeline with this whole end of the world plot of December 2012, that’s fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point.”

Ubisoft’s Alexandre Amacio said in a recent interview. “We had such a complex and strong narrative that we ourselves did our best to just try to execute these games before that date.” It would be stupid of us to be centering a game on a semi-reality and then have that conclusion happen after the date in real life.”

After this stage of the Assassin’s Creed Franchise there won’t be as much pressure to get the story out before a set deadline. As Amacio concludes, “Our development approach is changing so our cycles aren’t structured the same way, so it gives us a little bit more development time.”
