Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has earned $17 million on its Thursday night previews, 51.8% ahead of the first film and the highest of 2017.
Disney anticipates an opening of $150+ million for the weekend. The film continues its international rollout and stands at $167 million internationally, as of May 3rd.
Internationally the film earned $106 million in its first weekend from 37 markets, becoming the top film in all markets except Portugal, Turkey and Vietnam with IMAX contributing $5 million to the opening weekend gross.
The film also outperformed the first film in all markets except Belgium. It was the highest opening for an MCU film in Austria, the second-highest opening in the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and the third-highest in New Zealand and Italy.
