US retailer GameStop’s president Tony Bartel said that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 sold 1 million copies worldwide during its midnight launch events.
Tony Bartel told Bloomberg via email that “Black Ops 2 is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time,”
Black Ops 2 shattered pre-order records set last year by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – “the most successful pre-order program of all time” and it has the potential to become the best-selling game of all time, according to Activision.
Based on GameStop’s data Black Ops 2 will sell between 6.5 million and 7.2 million units in the U.S. and U.K. in its first 24 hours — matching or exceeding last year’s version by as much as 10 percent — estimates Michael Olson, an analyst with Piper Jaffray Cos. in Minneapolis.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 generated$775 million in five days, eventually hitting $1 billion in 16 days of availability. Do you think Black Ops 2 will break the record?
