Square Enix announced a remake of Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation 4 during Sony E3’s 2015 press conference.

“Production has begun on the full remake of Final Fantasy VII, a title that first released in 1997 and universally regarded as a hallmark title of the RPG genre.

Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.”

The game was first released in 1997 on the PlayStation system, the seventh installment in the Final Fantasy series and the game is the first in the series to use 3D computer graphics, featuring fully rendered characters on pre-rendered backgrounds, and was the first game in the main series to be released in Europe. It has sold over 11 million copies worldwide.

Plot:
“In Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE.

AVALANCHE was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Inc., an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra’s elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor.

Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Inc.?”

Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently in development for PS4, it will release sometime in 2016/2017.
