Footage from Criterion’s Burnout Crash has surfaced showing Burnout CRASH! in action, and a narrower time frame for the game’s release follows. And it’s a lot sooner than you think.

It’s clearly crash mode, and seems like such a step back from the crash modes we know and love. Still, we can clearly see a number of the fun mechanics are implemented, such as multiple explosions to keep chaining up hits, and special vehicles to try to knock off the road in the process. It’s also quite obvious a new feature involving environmental destructibility has been implemented, with building blowing up after taking enough damage, as well as trees and other structures. Richard Franke, Creative Director for Burnout CRASH! commented on the game, stating:

“Burnout CRASH! is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows. We’ve evolved the core gameplay which everyone loved about Crash Mode, and expanded the whole experience using music, style and Autolog to create what we feel is the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform.”

The new top down GTA 1 approach has a very distinct art style and immediately stands out from the other Burnout installments; I’m not sure if for the better or worse.

Here’s the video.

Burnout CRASH!‘s release time frame has been tightened up too, from Fall 2011 to August 2011
