An unfinished build of Gears of War 3 has leaked to torrent sites over the weekend, Microsoft and Epic are investigating. Microsoft and Epic are working with security teams and law enforcement in response to the Gears of War 3 leak that happened over the weekend.

Luckily for Epic the leaked version is not a final product, the only version that leaked so far is the developer copy that works only on modified debug Xbox 360.

Epic told GameSpot that the footage released by those with the development build of the game is not from the current game build, and is also not accurate to what the current build offers. Their wording was as follows:

We have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the web and [we are] working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation. This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches worldwide on September 20, 2011.

Footage from the development build of the game rapidly traveled around the web, as did the actual gameplay Video itself. The size of leaked developer build is 8GB, the game included both online and single-player, though it had lot’s of bugs, as well as issues with the cutscenes. Despite Epic’s address, it is still highly likely that JTAG owners will cease sharing the build, though due to restrictions placed upon JTAG consoles (they are unable to connect to Xbox LIVE for more than a few hours before permanent console banning), the damage caused will be significantly reduced.
