Chinese actor and martial artist, Donnie Yen is set to lead the upcoming feature film based on Square Enix’s open world action-adventure video game, Sleeping Dogs.
Yen will play the role of Wei Shen (Will Yun Lee), a former San Francisco police officer who was transferred to the Hong Kong Police Force and assigned the task to infiltrate and destroy a Triad organization known as the Sun On Yee (based on the Sun Yee On).
American film producer, Neal Moritz will produce the feature film.
The film will be set in a contemporary Hong Kong, which is split into four districts named after regions of the city.
Donnie Yen is popularly known for his roles in Ip Man (2008), Ip Man 2 (2010), Ip Man 3 (2015), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2016).
Sleeping Dogs video game was develped by United Front Games and Square Enix London for PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360 platforms.
It is set in contemporary Hong Kong, the single-player story follows Wei Shen, an undercover Hong Kong-American police officer on assignment to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad organization.
Sleeping Dogs movie will be produced by Original Film and DJ2 Entertainment with Moritz, Dmitri Johnson, Toby Ascher and Stephan Bugaj.
