Mod community fans will most likely be upset upon hearing the news of Battlefield 3 not including mod tools. Check out the interview below
In an interview with Gamestar [via YouTube] Patrick talks a little bit about Battlefield 3, answering questions asked by the community.
German Gamestar magazine asked DICE executive Patrick Soderlund whether modding tools would be included in the game, Patrick said:
“Well as of now there’s not going to be any modding tools, no.”
What? ‘Why not?’ I’ll bet you’re asking. Soderlund continued to underline the reasoning as follows:
“Because if you look at the Frostbite engine and how complex it is, it’s going to be very difficult for people to mod the game, because of the nature of the set up of levels, the destruction and all those things… it’s quite tricky. So we think it’s going to be too big of a challenge for people to make a mod.”
It’s a justification that sounds reasonable enough, although depressing to fans of BF3.
