Deadpool continues to dominate box office for third week, tramping the competition – Lionsgate’s Gods of Egypt, Open Road Films’ Triple 9, and Fox’s Eddie the Eagle.
The film takes over Oscar weekend with over $9 million on Friday with over $30 million for the weekend, it will likely top $285 million domestically through Sunday.
In the United States and Canada, Gods of Egypt released in 3,117 theaters, it grossed an estimated $800,000 in Thursday-night previews and $4.8 million on Friday, lowering the projected weekend gross to $11–$13 million.
The film’s production budget was around $140 million, making it 2016’s biggest big-budget bomb.
Triple 9 pre-release tracking suggests the film will gross $7–9 million from 2,205 theaters in its opening weekend, the film made $2.1 million on its first day.
Eddie the Eagle pre-release tracking suggests the film will gross $7–9 million from 2,042 theaters in its opening weekend, the film made $175,000 from its Thursday night screenings and $1.9 million on its first day.
As of February 27, 2016, Deadpool has grossed $263.1 million in North America and $266.5 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $529.6 million.
