Bungie and Activision confirmed the rumors that they are working on a sequel for 2014’s Destiny.
The upcoming online-only multiplayer first-person shooter is in development at Bungie, an official announcement is expected to arrive soon, before or during E3 2017.
The sequel was first mentioned in November 2014 by Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, where he said “Work has also begun on future expansion packs as well as on our next full game release”.
The first game in the series was released only for PS4 and Xbox One, the sequel may also release on PC.
On September 10, 2014, Activision claimed that Destiny was the most successful new gaming franchise launch, as the game shipped more than US$500 million to retail stores and first-parties worldwide.
As of November 2015, Destiny has 25 million registered users.
Destiny 2 is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it is expected to be released on September 8, 2017.
