Few hours ago, we said that Borderlands 2 will be in 2012 and today 2K Games has confirmed that Borderlands 2 will be released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC… in the next 21 months.
The news was leaked yesterday, but today it’s been officially announced: Borderlands 2 is in development. Launched in 2009, the original title featured Mad Max-style nomad weirdos battling over artefacts on the stark planet of Pandora. Players could upgrade their characters and customise their weapons in the manner of an RPG game, as well as take part in four-player co-op missions.
A 2K release said: “Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.
Environments will be more diverse and enemies will be smarter, says 2K, plus Gearbox is planning an improved mission system “capable of delivering a better story”.
Apparently the sequel, set for release next winter, will boast ‘new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story.’ Publisher 2KGames will be showing it off at Gamescom later this month.
It’s good news for those gamers growing slightly tired of identikit military shooters. Borderlands wasn’t perfect, but its unapologetically bloody action, cast of bizarre cast and compelling upgrade system brought a few neat touches to the genre.
We should get a chance to see the game at Gamescon on August 17 to August 21 and on Pax Prime on August 26 to August 28.
