Blizzard Entertainment’s executive VP Rob Pardo has personally concurred with Gabe Newell’s claim that Windows 8 “is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space“.
Rob Pardo took to twitter and quoted Newell’s comments that Windows 8 is “not awesome for Blizzard either”.
Pardo’s claims were centred on criticisms that that Microsoft will want to have more control over various applications and purchases made through its next operating system. Windows 8 will only allow Metro-enabled apps and programs to be downloaded via the Windows Store from which Microsoft takes a 30% cut, thus squeezing the margins of software developers.
Newell said Windows 8, which launches in October, could affect a number of top-end PC manufacturers. “They’ll exit the market. I think margins are going to be destroyed for a bunch of people,” he said.
