American actor, Troy Baker replaced Todd Stashwick as Nathan Drake’s older sibling, Sam in Naughty Dog’s forthcoming action-adventure, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

In an interview with IGN’s Greg Miller, Baker notes that re-casting happens, and this is not the first time it has happened in gaming industry.

He went on to compare the re-casting with Marty McFly, who was recast in Universal Pictures’ American science fiction comedy film, Back to the Future.

“It was actually just, ‘We want to take the character in a different direction, we want to take the story in a different direction’, and so there was a lot of stuff that changed, said Baker.

And I really applaud Naughty Dog for being able to come in and go, ‘Okay, let’s roll up our sleeves, let’s get really, really dirty, and let’s do this.’ It’s just, things happen, and you’re like, ‘Okay, you’re clearly talented, but this isn’t working the way we want.’

It not a reflection on the actor, it’s just the story changes; the character changes.”

Baker previously praised the directors, Neil Druckmann & Bruce Straley.

Troy Baker has previously voiced Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite, Joel in The Last of Us, The Joker in Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Assault on Arkham, Talion in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Jack Mitchell in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare & many more.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be available sometime this year for PlayStation 4.
