The first Avatar film released back in 2009 and now after eight years, principal photography on Avatar sequels has finally kicked off.

The filming on epic science fiction sequels began today, on September 25, according to Deadline the four Avatar films are expected to exceed $1 billion budget.

Avatar 2 & 3 will be shot simultaneously, with December 18, 2020 & December 17, 2021 release dates respectively.

The Avatar team will take a break after two sequels and then go back to finishing up Avatar 4 & 5 for December 20, 2024 & December 19, 2025 release dates respectively.

The film sees the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver.

Avatar sequels will be directed by James Cameron and written with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.

Production will be handled by Cameron and Jon Landau through Lightstorm Entertainment.
