American film and television actor, Anton Viktorovich Yelchin (March 11, 1989 – June 19, 2016) passed away today at the age of 27, according to TMZ.
Anton Yelchin was killed “early Sunday morning after getting pinned by his own car.
Yelchin’s friends became alarmed because he was supposed to meet them hours earlier for a rehearsal. They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 AM and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox pillar, which was attached to a security gate,” TMZ reports.
Law enforcement tells TMZ that the “engine was running when his body was discovered, and the car was in neutral. The driveway was on a fairly steep incline. It’s unclear why he got out of the car.”
He was best known for portraying Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot series, & for several other prominent roles including Along Came a Spider (2001), Hearts in Atlantis (2001), Alpha Dog (2006), Terminator Salvation (2009), Charlie Bartlett (2007), Fright Night (2011), Like Crazy (2011), Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) and Burying the Ex (2014).
The studio behind Star Trek series, Paramount Pictures has released an official statement on Yelchin’s passing:
“All of us at Paramount join the world in morning the untimely passing of Antony Yelchin. As a member of the Star Trek family, he was beloved by so many and he will missed by all. We share our deepest condolences with his mother, father and family.”
