Activision showcased next-gen tech demo from the research and development team at Activision Blizzard.

“This animated character is being rendered in real-time on current video card hardware, using standard bone animation. The rendering techniques, as well as the animation pipeline are being presented at GDC 2013”

The video was rendered in a DirectX11 environment, using advanced techniques to faithfully represent the character’s skin and eyes, running on a GeForce GTX 680 at 180FPS, Check out the video after the break:

Activision Blizzard technical director Jorge Jimenez wrote a blog post saying the demo, ‘represents to the culmination of many years of work in photorealistic characters.’ But there’s still much more to be done. The next step is better hair and teeth.

“We will show how each detail is the secret for achieving reality. For us, the challenge goes beyond entertaining; it’s more about creating a medium for better expressing emotions, and reaching the feelings of the players,” he added.
