Ubisoft doesn’t expect Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to sell as many as last year’s Assassin’s Creed III, according to CEO Yves Guillemot.
“To come back to Assassin’s Creed IV, in our numbers we have… we expect less than last year,” he told during a post-earnings call (as reported by GameSpot). Although Assassin’s Creed III managed to ship 12.5m units.
“We are actually pushing to achieve more than last year because we think the pirate segment is a great segment that can generate a lot more on a worldwide basis than what was achieved last year,” Guillemot said.
“But we wanted to be prudent on our expectations so that it can probably be a bonus if it comes.”
Ubisoft hasn’t given a reason why they believe Assassin’s Creed IV sales won’t outsell Assassin’s Creed III, however Watch Dogs might be the reason.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will launch on October 29th in the US, and November 1st everywhere else for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC and Wii U.
