Yesterday’s Ubisoft officially announced Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots, with the game still two years away Ubisoft unleashed the debut gameplay trailer.

The reason that this is so unusual is because this trailer is not final gameplay or even beta footage but a pre-rendered vision of what the game may play like. Usually these are used by development teams to visualize the look and feel of the final product before it enters full production.

Rainbow 6 Patriots - Prototype Trailer 1

Ubisoft chose to release the target render after various leaks surrounding the game popped up earlier this summer and fall. These leaks included the registration of the domain name “RainbowSixpatriots.com”, screen grabs from the target render video and the game’s current logo.

The video starts off a bit slow, with a guy sitting around his living room. Suddenly, though, his home is invaded by armed thugs. No sense in spoiling all the details beyond that. I will say that the titular Rainbow team – an elite squad of commandos – does make a dramatic appearance.

Before you critique the graphics, note that this isn’t actual gameplay footage. Instead, it’s a sort of concept video that was created a year ago. It’s meant to show the “creative vision” for the game. Take a look at the video after the jump

In addition to the gameplay we can expect, the video also hints at the greater story. The man with the bomb being told by the terrorist house invaders in the intro: ”You really did cash in on everyone else getting forclosed, didn’t you?”

In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, Team Rainbow faces a new and very real threat called the “True Patriots,” a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests.  The True Patriots will do whatever it takes to reclaim their country.  Playing as Team Rainbow, players will face critical scenarios that will require them to make tough ethical decisions in order to stop this new breed of terrorists.

Rainbow 6 Patriots set for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2013.
